Memotrees (our registered trademark which is short for memory trees) make it simple and affordable to dedicate a pre-planted tree, or to plant your very own tree, in memory of a loved one. Memotrees is third generation, privately owned land which will never be developed into anything other than a beautiful, peaceful memorial woodland. Although tucked away in a quiet corner of Cumbria, we are easily accessible and visitors are welcome 365 days a year, from dawn to dusk. All of your family and friends are welcome, even the four legged variety, (on a lead please)! Please note there are no toilet facilities at the woodland and suitable footwear such as sturdy shoes, walking boots or Wellingtons should be worn. We do however have seating and a picnic area so sit awhile, relax, ponder, reflect and enjoy your memories in gorgeous tranquillity.

Following advice from the Forestry Commission we have planted lots of native Wild Cherry, Oak, Scot’s Pine, Hawthorn, Rowan and Ash to establish our new riverside and meadow memorial woodland. The advice from our institutional friends was to develop the woodland as naturally and as gradually as possible in harmony with the current eco-systems with the minimum of interference and although the land is managed and maintained, we strive to keep our young memorial forest as natural as possible helping the surrounding flora, fauna and wildlife flourish. This means some areas have become a little marshy, and the meadow grass and wild flowers grow freely so the woodland and meadows will look different all year round depending on the season.

A memorial is very much a celebration of life and the gift of a tree is a lasting, living legacy which will enrich the environment and aid carbon reduction for generations to come. Over time Memotrees will be developed gradually, opening up one copse at a time, so a beautiful new forest will have been established for the benefit of everybody to enjoy as well as creating new habits for our already resident owls, deer, rabbits, badgers, stoats, ducks, pheasants, herrings and oyster catchers to name but a few.

Trees can be dedicated in celebration of a new life, a birthday, anniversary, in memory of a pet or simply as a carbon friendly gift to the planet. Certificates can match the occasion, worded to your choice and are printed on recycled paper. Tree plaques are made of locally sourced Lakeland Slate and are engraved to order.
